Rarely does the music of Jerry Goldsmith cross the line from sensitive to sappy, but the frustratingly sentimental Powder proves just such a misstep. Given the film's supernatural overtones, Goldsmith surprisingly eschews the electronic elements that are a hallmark of his excursions into fantasy, and Powder suffers as a result. There's little sense of wonder or magic in these simple, straightforward melodies, which rely instead on saccharine string arrangements that are more romanticized than romantic. ~ Jason Ankeny
