Forever Young captures Jerry Goldsmith at his sweetest and most sentimental -- an unapologetically gooey evocation of romance and melodrama, it's a lightweight work by any definition, but its charms are obvious. One rarely associates Goldsmith with innocence, but Forever Young is utterly guileless -- with its soprano saxophones, woodwind solos, and feathery piano, the music oozes old-fashioned romance, and even the more intense themes, like the soaring "Test Flight," seem to originate from a simpler time. Billie Holiday's poignant reading of "The Very Thought of You" closes the soundtrack in aptly heartfelt fashion. ~ Jason Ankeny
