If you didn't get enough Sounds of the Eighties through the volumes of the series dedicated to one specific year, Time Life also released a sub-series that covers a couple -- or a few -- years of the decade at once, and there's little (if any) overlap. Again, each volume takes a fairly broad swipe at mainstream hits with little concern for stylistic cohesion. Sounds of the Eighties: 1985-1986 features Tears for Fears' "Head Over Heels," the Thompson Twins' "Lay Your Hands on Me," Scritti Politti's "Perfect Way," Steve Winwood's "Higher Love," Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight," Genesis' "Throwing It All Away," and Kool & the Gang's "Cherish." ~ Andy Kellman
