It has the appearance of an off-brand release that could be filled with re-recordings and poor live versions, yet Totally '80s is legitimate. Released through a "special markets" catalog division of major-label EMI, it consists strictly of original studio versions. The selections are mostly from the early half of the '80s, including Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love," Blondie's "Call Me," Talk Talk's "It's My Life," Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf," and Thompson Twins' "Hold Me Now." Dozens of similar compilations have been released throughout the years, but this is a budget-priced release that doesn't fool around. ~ Andy Kellman
