With Lova Lova, their fourth album, Superbus shy away from their rock roots and take a further step toward the electronic music so favored by their peers in France. Similar in style to their 2006 album, Wow, Lova Lova offers up another 15 tracks that are fun, frivolous, and entirely forgettable after the first listen. Listeners will appreciate the energy-driven tracks laden with Jennifer Ayache's apt vocals, although fans of early Superbus may still be wishing for a return to that No Doubt-inspired raw energy of their debut, Aéromusical, and the follow-up, Pop 'n' Gum. It seems that the group has abandoned its earlier style in favor of a much more finessed sound. Lova Lova just falls short of a true dance album, although several of the tracks do inspire a sort of involuntary rock and sway. Among those, "Addictions," "Nelly," and "Lova Lova" are the standout favorites. There are no mind-blowing musical revelations to be found on this album, but Lova Lova is a fun way to pass the time.
